Mariano "Chicho" FRUMBOLI & Juana SEPULVEDA

Mariano Frumboli, also known as Chicho, has undoubtedly played the main role in the creative evolution of tango in the last 10 years. He is renowned worldwide as one of the founders and initiators of Tango Nuevo. He is famous for his personality, musicality and creativity. A true representative of the "New Generation," Chicho brings all his talent and freshness to the dance. He teaches with love and talent, combined with a profound understanding of the dance. His classes are a must for those just approaching the Nuevo Tango style, as well as for experienced dancers. Chicho's work has been one of the biggest gifts that an artist could have given to any art form: the continuous questioning, the research, the quest for originality, and full-hearted creativity.

Chicho began playing drums at 14 years old, and studied theater for 8 years before discovering the tango. He has studied and worked closely with Gustavo Naviera and Fabian Salas. His dancing is characterized above all by musicality and improvisation. In a unique way, he expresses the essence of the music in his dancing. In his teaching, he emphasizes being conscious of the body's movement. Chicho's theatrical background influenced tango dance by adding aesthetics and forms never used before in tango, which at that time went directly against the established rules of social tango but that today are used among professionals and amateurs all around the world.

Juana Sepulveda, is one of the youngest-born stars in the tango sky, she spans the entire range of expression from an innovative subtlety to a stunning manifestation of power in every movement, always matched by her unswerving musicality and pure sensuality.

Javier Rodriguez

Javier Rodriguez, tango dancer and teacher, is one of the most recognized figures of the Argentine tango and an indisputable expert in Tango Salon style. For the past 20 years Javier has been a part of the most famous tango festivals in Argentina, Europe and Asia, where he never stopped dazzling the participants with his art of dance and pedagogy.

Javier Rodriguez has begun dancing tango when he was 18. Together with his first professional partner, Geraldine Rojas, they have quickly become one of the most sought after tango couples in the world. They have toured the globe, performing in the best theaters and working in most prestigious tango festivals.

The next stage of Javier’s professional tango career was his partnership with another prominent dancer, Andrea Misse, with whom Javier worked for 9 years until Andrea's tragic death in 2012. Together with Andrea Javier toured throughout Europe, Asia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile and they continued being one of the most popular couples worldwide.

Javier's teaching focuses on technique, posture, and elegance, emphasizing those many little important details that can polish and
perfect your dance.

Tango Element is proud to welcome Javier back to our annual event. This year Javier will perform with no less distinguished dancer, Moira Castellano, which will be their world premier performing together.

Pablo Rodriguez & Corina Herrera

Corina Herrera is a well-known tango dancer and teacher who has taught and performed at festivals all over the world. She taught and performed in the most famous milongas of Buenos Aires with such top-level dancers as Horacio Godoy, Federico Naveira, Ezequiel Farfaro, Pablo Rodriguez, Octavio Fernandez, Rodrigo Palacios, and others. In her teaching, Corina’s focuses on her students discovering the different sensations that exist in the world of tango dancing, and showing them the techniques that generate those sensations, hence, helping them to gain the freedom of choosing the way they dance and understanding the differences.

Corina began to teach at 14 assisting Julio Balmaceda and Omar Vega. Since then she worked in many schools in Buenos Aires – Tango Brujo, Argentinean Tango School, Salon Canning, La Nacional, Unitango, La Viruta, teaching group lessons and special seminars, at El Yaite, El Motivo, and traveled around her country to teach in other provinces.

Currently Corina teaches on a regular basis at La Viruta with Horacio Godoy and at the Milonga La Discepolo with Pablo Rodriguez.

Martin Maldonado and Maurizio Ghella

Martin Maldonado and Maurizio Ghella, are two young teachers and artists who through the technique are looking for the expressive interpretation, for being the dance, and, as a consequence, for the "excuse" to dance their feelings.

One of the main focuses of their work has always been the connection within the couple. The goal is not to learn only new steps, but to emphasize the technique through feeling each other, by being connected and by paying close attention to the embrace. "When you're dancing like this, it will be easier to improvise, and also to approach your Tango in a much more relaxed way", say Martin and Maurizio. In their work they believe in a proposal that allows them to develop not only the technical skills of the dancers, but also to give free space to expression and interpretation.

In the recent years they've been traveling around the world, presenting tango and Argentine folklore, grasping the fusion between the two. They've worked at many well-respected festivals, such as Berlin Tang festival in Germany, Vienna Tango Week in Austria, Tango Postale in France, Misterio Tango Festival in Argentina, just to mention a few. Martin and Maurizio posess an amazing capability to encourage and motivate their students and this year Tango Element is happy to welcome this terrific couple back to Baltimore by popular demand.

Moira Castellano

Moira Castellano is a professional tango dancer, choreographer and teacher. She has an extensive dance background going back to her childhood, when she studied ballet and modern dance. She discovered tango in 1996 in Rosario, Argentina, with maestro Orlando Paiva. Shortly after she moved to Buenos Aires where she studied with various famous maestros, such as Vanina Bilous and Roberto Herrera, Natalia Games and Gabriel Agnio, Fabian Salas, Gustavo Naveira, among others. Between 1999 and 2006 Moira lived in Paris, France, performing as part of the Caterine Berbesou company in work that was based on tango, theater, and modern dance.

After partnering with Pablo Inza for a couple of years, in 2008 Moira began her partnership with Gaston Torelli, with whom she has traveled all over the world, teaching tango dancers, as well as performing at milongas and on stage in Europe, Canada, Asia, and the US.

Experienced teacher, Moira Castellano is currently one of the references in the Argentine tango pedagogy. She is renown for the quality of movement in her dance, in which she projects elegance, personality, tradition, and innovation. In her teaching Moira focuses on basic concepts, such as liberating your body and conditioning it
for dancing, connecting with yourself and your partner, internal movement vs external movement, sensibility and quality of movement.

Moira is also a co-organizer of Misterio Tango Festival, one of the most important tango events held yearly in Buenos Aires.

We are honored to welcome Moira to Tango Element and we look forward to her extraordinary classes as well as her debut performing with Javier Rodriguez! This will be Moira's only visit to the US in 2015.
